Autumn Rains

Within this geographic bowl
there lies a hidden water hole.
The summer heat has took it’s toll
and all that now remains
awaits the Autumn rains.

Nocturnal one, that old raccoon
can sense the rains are coming soon
and under this October moon
a drink his life sustains.
He waits for Autumn rains.

Coyote in the distant night
I hear while near my fire’s light.
His howling…yipping…what delight.
Those wild canine refrains
may speak of Autumn Rains.

The hawk, the antelope and deer
the booming thunder soon will hear
and know that falling rain is near.
Again these wild domains
will drink of Autumn rains.
